About CEEDefense¶
CEEDefense is an independent open-source defence intelligence publication focused on NATO’s Central and Eastern European member states. We track how Poland, the Baltic states, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, and their neighbours are building, equipping, and positioning their armed forces.
What We Cover¶
The eastern flank of NATO has undergone a structural transformation since 2022. Defence budgets are at post-Cold War highs, procurement programmes are running at unprecedented scale, and doctrines are being revised under real operational pressure. CEEDefense documents this transformation through four lenses:
- Nations — defence profiles for each CEE NATO member: force structure, budgets, procurement pipeline, doctrine, and alliance posture
- Topics — thematic analysis across the flank: air defence architecture, armoured forces, artillery modernisation, cyber capabilities, NATO logistics
- Analysis — longer-form assessments of strategic trends, capability gaps, and defence industrial developments
- Briefs — short analytical notes on significant procurement decisions and capability announcements
Our Approach¶
CEEDefense is built on open-source intelligence (OSINT). Our sources are public: national defence ministries, NATO communiqués, SIPRI databases, official procurement announcements, parliamentary records, and established defence research institutes. We have no access to classified material and do not claim otherwise.
Our analysis is descriptive and structural. We explain what is happening and why it is strategically significant. We do not advocate for specific procurement decisions or political positions.
Who We Are¶
CEEDefense is operated by Veilmark LLC, an independent research and publishing company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We have no institutional affiliations, no government funding, and no connections to defence contractors, military organisations, or intelligence agencies. Editorial decisions are made entirely on the basis of analytical quality.
Corrections¶
Accuracy is foundational. If you identify a factual error, contact us at desk@veilmark.org with the article title and the specific claim. Verified corrections are applied promptly and noted at the foot of the relevant article.
